Château Fombrauge, luxury rooms in the chateau at Saint-Emilion

luxury rooms in the chateau near Saint-EmilionThe Château Fombrauge offers luxury rooms in the chateau at Saint Emilion, only thirty minutes from Bordeaux

Château Fombrauge is one of the oldest in Saint-Emilion, with its origins dating back to the 16th century. It is surrounded by a park of 100-year-old trees, but the oldest are three olive trees which were planted more than a thousand years ago. Needless to say the park is listed and protected. The facade of the chateau looks out onto a geometric French formal garden with an ancient sundial at its centre, a solitary witness to the passage of time. Peace and tranquillity reign here.
The chateau, a magnificent classic style chartreuse, with long low buildings, overlooks part of its vineyard. But the sober, restrained lines of the exterior, hide an elegant and luxurious interior. Over the centuries the chateau has been the home of several noble families, now it allows its guests the privilege of experiencing the luxury of two tastefully decorated suites, sophisticated, refined and elegant.
The Fombrauge suite, with flamboyant fabrics in purple and deep carmine red, perpetuates the history of the chateau with bucolic, pastoral scenes in toiles de Jouy muslin. An antique four-poster bed sits on a laquer finished wooden parquet floor, accompanied by sombre coloured chairs and chest of drawers from the time of the property's first owners. The Château Guerry suite harks back to the charm of the Louis XV period, with typical bronze light fittings and upholstered bergere armchairs. The small but comfortable and elegant salon, decorated in purple velvet, could be a tea room, a reading room or simply a place for intimate friends to meet.
Château Fombrauge wine is a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé, distinguished for its unique richness and complexity. Music and wine find perfect harmony at Château Fombrauge, which has given its name to a very rare Stradivarius violin, made by the famous 17th century luthier, Antonio Stradivari. The music, the chateau, the wine, a mixture of the most delicate and refined emotions, make this an absolutely amazing place to stay.
