Napoleon III was behind much of the development in Vichy at the end of the 19th century. The mansion’s current name is in homage to the emperor’s mother, Hortense de Beauharnais.
Home to a couple of passionate golfers, this 19th century mansion and its two gardens have been reinterpreted as a bed and breakfast. After one year of renovations with the help of local artisans, the décor is one of refined originality that respects the original architecture. Outside, a sculpted façade, ironwork front gate with its Bourbon spikes, 1920’s era stained glass, ox-eye windows, and slate roof; inside, a marble staircase with a sculpted banister, boiseries, pilasters. As for the new décor: contemporary furniture mixed with antique’s fair finds, one-of-a-kind pieces, art objects from around the world, souvenirs of foreign travels.
