I visited Poznan and the Contemporary Art Foundation Surrounded by Shops
Art Stations Foundation is a contemporary art foundation in Poznan where the exposition gallery is surrounded by shops and boutiques.
Poznan is a business center with a historic city center that was entirely reconstructed after the war, as well as a vast business district.
It is in the middle of this district that one finds Stary Browar, an ensemble of exceptionally large red brick buildings that were once a brewery. They were built in 1844 by Ambrosius Hugger, a German brew master.
In 1998, Grażyna Kulczyk’s company bought the buildings with the idea of transforming them into an art and business center. After several years of impeccable renovations, Stary Browar has become a unique site where contemporary art mixes with boutiques with a rare elegance. A one-of-a-kind, the complex is now considered one of the most hip shopping centers in Poland and in Europe. Stary Browar is “50% contemporary art and 50% business.”
Art Stations, a contemporary art foundation, has found its home at the center of Stary Browar, where visitors are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore the art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Grażyna Kulczyk hopes to make an art-inspired life more accessible to the public, by encouraging visitors to discover and explore contemporary artistic creation. With this aim in mind, Art Stations Foundations offers expositions and performances where the spectators participate in the event.
Since 2004, a wide variety of artistic domains have been on the program, including painting, photography, sculpture and design. Art Stations Foundation hopes to continue presenting even more young artists, acting as a patron and guide with the goal of helping new ideas and movements emerge from the world of 21st century contemporary art.
