Jean Nouvel, the architect who makes design
“I am not a designer, but an architect who makes design” says Jean Nouvel, who draws furniture since 1987.
And when we look at a sofa, a chair, a table, a light or a mirror that he created, evidence comes to light: the shapes are minimalist, material, colour or effect are reduced to the essence, with a clear simplicity.
Fascinated by the mysterious Middle-Ages and the lavish 18th Century French style, Jean Nouvel has imagined a poetic scenography to show his furniture in a historical environment: it is possible to sit on a sofa made of black leather, designed for the the Abu Dhabi Louvre facing a carved wood bas-relief or to discover an infinite series of antic chests of drawers stacked on top of one another, in a coloured mirror. Surprises will await visitors like a marble carpet or a very unique red light, laid on the floor of a bedroom of the early Middle Ages.
From October 27th to February 2nd, 2017, "Jean Nouvel, mes meubles d'architecte, sens et essence" will take place at the very select Musées des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
