Saint-Tropez by Willy Rizzo in a limited edition
The gallery is located in the very select Carré Rive Gauche in Paris. When I come to the private view of the exhibition, it is pouring rain; Willy Rizzo’s sunny photographic images line the walls inside.
Saint-Tropez became Saint-Trop’ in the fifties, under Willy Rizzo’s curious, artistic and mischievous eye. People, stars, artists, fans of the New Wave and be-bop addicts gathered in the evening at Madame Arturo’s, at the marina or at the café Senequier, for Vespa rides or boat trips. Everything is there : the roofs of the houses, the red terrace, the fishing port, the beach of Pampelonne. And everybody comes accross everybody: Bardot, Vadim, Sagan, Nicholson and Willy Rizzo.
Underneath is a cinema with several armchairs where loops of mythic French films extracts are projected: Hello Sadness by Françoise Sagan with Jean Seberg and Mylène Demongeot, The Swimming Pool with Romy Schneider and Alain Delon or And God created Woman with Brigitte Bardot and Jean-Louis Trintignant.
I found myself seated near Mrs. Maeght and Alexandre Zouari who confide in together about the films, the exhibition and the secret Saint Tropez, in a limited edition.
