Sculpted art photographs made from porcelain
No need to present Studio Harcourt, recently renovated and located in the very chic 16th arrondissement of Paris and no need to present either JL Coquet, which produces high Limoges porcelain in France since 1824.
JL Coquet and Studio Harcourt collaborate to build an innovative unique project : carved lithophanes based upon art portraits. The perfection of the treatment process has taken several years: firstly, the art photograph is engraved on porcelain paste, which has to be heated in the oven to become solid. It is necessary to make several copies, out of which the final piece is chosen. The bespoke metal frame can then be ordered, with an accuracy of half a millimeter, to fit perfectly with the china.
The second challenge was to adapt a LED plate at the back of the sculptured photograph, and to control the lighting power and the color, because porcelain absorbs the blue light. Motion picture films have been needed to ensure the perfect quality of various tones of grey. Further refinement, it is possible to adjust the light intensity, to have photographs appear progressively.
Studio Harcourt actually presents Catherine Deneuve, Rania de Jordanie and the singer Mika in porcelain 3D.
